The Pearl Izumi X-ALP Summit Mountain Bike Shoe is a technical one designed to deliver superior comfort and durability for aggressive all-day comfort and all-mountain riding. Its rugged construction lends maximum durability when deep in the wooded backcountry or exposed desert slickrock. The X-ALP Summit uses a seamless upper that cradles the foot preventing any seams or hotspots that could lead to irritation. Pearl Izumi MTB Shoes

These shoes fit really well and are comfortable for my wide feet. No issues with Shimano cleats and pedals. The Boa adjuster cinches up pretty well, but seems to loosen a bit through the ride. Good amount of tread for hike a bike sections.

Comfortable and durable

I bought these for a five day bike pack with a good amount of hike-a-bike and they were great right out of the box. I have since used them for a five day gravel trip in Europe and they were perfect for riding as well as riding around.

Perfect combo of cleats and walkability
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I bought these PI X-Alp Summits to use with both my road bike and gravel bike using Shimano PDES-600 SPD 2-bolt pedals. These shoes with Shimano 2-bolt cleats provide some float, moderate stiffness, and a reasonable portion of the power that 3-bolt cleats provide, but are super-comfortable to walk in off the bike. The combo of a velcro toe strap and boa across the upper part provides good adjustment. Toe box is not as narrow as some others I've tried, and fit is true to size for me. I'm not doing centuries or massive gravel rides so can't comment on all-day comfort, but these are great for 2-hour road/gravel rides and a walk into the pub for a cool one afterward. Would definitely buy these again.

Comfortable out of the box. I’ve used these for endurance xc, epic adventure days with tons of hiking, enduro, dh, and they’re comfortable to wear after a ride. These are it for me. My first pair lasted 2 years of punishment and then the boa snapped. Shoes are still good, still have them as a backup.

comfy shoes

Big fan of the boa on these shoes, just so much nicer then dealing with laces. Also very comfortable and a great shoe for mountain biking. I like the grey color as well, as it doesn't make me feel like a mega dork in black clip in shoes. The velcro strap hasn't really come into play yet, but I guess its there if I need it. My feet stay comfortable the entire ride, I'd definitely buy another pair.

Comfortable, sturdy, stable for walking

I’ve used them on a few rides already and they are very comfortable. They are stiff enough to sufficiently transfer power onto the pedals but flexible enough to hike short distances when needed. The material seems to be of good quality so I would expect them to last a long time.

I have been really happy with these. Over rides the closure does loosen slightly and after ~2200 ridden miles on these the rocky terrain where I often ride has taken a toll on the tread of these shoes. I appreciate that these have held up to some pretty legit abuse and that they are comfortable to walk around in.

I had an older model of the X-ALP Summit shoes which I liked quite a bit. Unfortunately I damaged the ratchet closing system in a fall and decided it was time to try out some Lake brand shoes my bike shop kept telling me about. While I did like the Lake's- they were comfortable and breathed well- they started producing a squeaking noise that I wasn't ever able to get rid of, not even after changing pedals nor cleats. That noise followed me between bikes, so I know it was the shoes themselves. Lake ended up ghosting me when trying to deal with them for a warranty issue, so I decided they could bugger off and ended up purchasing these updated version of the X-ALP Summit shoes. These new shoes with the BOA closure system fixed my only complaint about the old Summit's. The ratchet closing system was ok, but this BOA is just that much better. I really love the Smoke Grey color, something different than the usual black or white shoes- but still neutral enough to go with everything. I sized up one size from my previous Summit's because after having ridden the Lake's a while, I realized my old ones were a little snug in the toe box. Sizing up fixed that, while still being a comfortable length without being too long. These are now just as comfortable as the 2x pricier Lake's... without the squeak :). Also the Lake's were quite a bit stiffer-- and I know some people like that, but I never did get used to it. Walking off the bike is so much more comfortable with these. Sorry I ever doubted you, X-ALP Summit Shoes!
