Why We Like The X-alp Launch SPD Cycling Shoe
The Pearl Izumi X-Alp Launch wrap you up with a bonded, seamless upper to keep your foot hugged into place, so you can book it up the trail, on bike or on foot, for next level exploration. The X-Alp Launch combine the best of both worlds, with a stiff enough sole, thanks to a nylon composite shank, and serious grip that locks into the trail when you're off the bike. Its built with an EVA midsole that cushions blows from sharp rocks, and a Vibram Megagrip outsole that holds true to the dirt under foot. The lugs are designed with open an chevron shaped pattern, directionally placed to give you braking power in the heel, and propelling power in the toe while maintaining surefooted grip. Even the pedal zone features Vibram Megagrip with siping to keep mud away, so engaging is quick and snappy when you clip in.

Solid performer at a great price
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Had these for a month now and have used them for touring (lots of walking around), gravel riding and mountain biking. These perform similarly to my non-SPD version of this shoe but with the benefit of SPD compatibility and slightly more room in the toe box. The sole is great for walking but rigid enough for riding. The SPD cleat doesn't come close to hitting the ground when walking around. Very comfortable to ride and walk. The BOA is handy to keep things tightened up while moving and quick to get out of. Tongues could use a centering mechanism as they both slide to the side pretty quickly, although that doesn't affect comfort or performance.

Really comfy!

I have wide feet and a high talus and finding the right MTB shoe for longer days is complicated. These shoes are real comfortable and provide good enough support for effective pedaling. They are so comfortable in fact, that I don’t need to take other shoes with me for after the ride. The clear does need to be installed at an odd angle, if I install it straight (like I’ve always done on all other cycling shoes I’ve owned) my feet will be angled inwards on the pedals. This feels strange. And I had to trim a little of the outsole around the cleats so I could clip/unclip easier.

This is the first clipless experience for me. The shoes are comfortable and the clipless system is working perfectly for me. Sorry for the short review, but I was initially hesitant ordering these becasue there weren't any reviews. Great shoe.
