Why We Like The Genetix Plus 2 Mountain Bike Shoe

We're putting on the Northwave Genetix Plus 2 Mountain Bike Shoe for our first foray into clipless mountain biking. After throwing on our favorite pair of 2-bolt pedals and cleats, these shoes fit firmly to our feet with their dial and hook-and-loop closure. We'll ride with these on our local cross-country loops, being sure to put in a few hard efforts here and there to gain some added fitness. The shoes are infinitely more responsive than our old flat shoes, and the amount of control we're adding to our bike changes the ride completely.

Shoe Review

Familiarity:

I have about 200 miles on the shoes and am pleased with them. While they are lighter than my RC shoes, they are stable. Even though I don’t wear wide shoes, I initially got the “regular” shoe, but it was too cozy so returned them and got the wide shoe, which fits fine.

My previous shoes were Northwaves and they lasted so long that I vowed to replace them with the same brand. These appear to be of similar quality and I believe they are a great value for the price. Had three velcro straps before so I'm adapting to releasing the dial/cable. Tried a pair of Shimanos and they seem to run narrower than the Northwaves. Hope they give the same service life as my previous pair. Highly recommend this brand.

Perfect fit

Size Bought:

These are the best fitting cycling shoes I have ever owned, and that's quite a few pairs. Most men's regular width cycling shoes are too wide at the heel for me, but these are just right. I also appreciate that they were available in a half size. I am using them for both indoor cycling and outdoor touring. The sole is stiff enough for support, but not as stiff for walking as my regular road shoes. I'm not sure about the durability of the braid lacing, as I am accustomed to the wire lacing of the BOA system. But then, I don't intend to use them for anything rugged.

This is my second pair of these shoes . They work a well as the more expensive one’s I bought in the past. I tend to be really rough on shoes.
