Finally- a helmet that fits
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
Was searching for a new helmet to replace my aging Specialized Prevail II Vent. I tried probably 5 different brands and multiple models from each before I found a display model in store of the Giro Aries to try. This fits very well, has good shape, and feels secure. The reviews about sunglass docking are true. Still trying to evaluate the airflow but it has been 90 deg and 80% humidity lately so there is no stopping profuse sweating. I was pleasantly surprised that Giro included a spare sweat pad in the box. Nice touch. Happy with my purchase!

Great Helmet, as always

Bought this about a month ago but haven't been able to use it (I was on travel). Looks to be typical Giro quality and I can't wait to use it - tho it is very small and tight on my forehead (I've been wearing Giro's of same size - and my Aries is same size and recommended for same size) but it's markedly tighter. We'll see what happens over time but I won't let that take away from what I consider to be an excellent helmet

One Major Flaw

This is a great helmet with one major flaw. It’s very lightweight and has great venting. However, as others have mentioned is does not hold sunglasses at all. In fact it is the worse helmet I’ve had for this. I use Oakley Flak 2.0s and no matter how I put them in the front they fall out. The little rubber grippers they have added don’t help at all. Now I never take my sunglasses off while riding unless I want to stick them in my shirt pocket.

Best helmet I’ve owned in 35 yrs riding

We’ve come a LONG way baby! My early years racing, soft-shell mushroom helmets were the norm. I had a Bell Spectrum. Eventually the first hard shells came out and I had a Bell Image Pro. Fast forward three decades and I’ve been through a LOT of helmets, more recently several Synthe, Foray and Cinder models. The Aries Spherical tops them all, by a country mile. Fit, Safety, Ventilation, Style…this one checks all the boxes. It also has great sunglasses integration. I love this helmet. Yes, it costs more, but you only get one brain.

Very comfortable fit. #1 on the Virginia Tech safety scale. Nicely adjustable. Good ventilation and aerodynamics. Compared against other top helmets. This one is more and more easily adjustable than the Lazer, though not as light. Liked it just a hair better than the Specialized. Slightly more expensive than those alternatives.

Great airflow

The helmet is light and airy, not much for wind noise. The inner harness pinches the back of my head at the top edge of the ratchet strap (may be residual swelling from last crash that made me need a new helmet), but I notice it less each ride. There is an inner fit adjustment on the inside that helps a lot for accomodating head shape. Came from a Smith Trace MIPS that very likely saved my life to the top-rated safety of this Giro. Loved that helmet too.

Got hit by a car wearing it

I don't think I can endorse this helmet more strongly. At the same time I was turning left, a car decided to pass me on my left (in a no passing zone of course). I was flipped up on the hood and "starred" the windshield of the car with my helmet and head. Other than a solid concussion I didn't have any significant brain injury. With a less quality helmet I'm not sure I would have had the same outcome. I purchased it because of its ranking on the VT website. I recommend reviewing the Virginia Tech helmet rankings prior to purchasing helmets. Stay safe out there.

Aries Spherical poorly packaged
- Familiarity:

This helmet has received raving reviews. I just received it and the MIPS cage was bent and broken. That component seems really flimsy and cheap compared to other MIPs designs or other Giro helmets I’ve used in the past. The packaging doesn’t help the matter either because that back bottom part of the head cage which was bent and broken, gets pushed down against the box. Hmm. I would consider just replacing it but since I now have to pay for returning it, + having to pay more to replace it, etc., I think I’ll have to pass on this one.

Great, nice looking helmet

Not too much to say. I like the look of it. It's comfy and easy to adjust. There's also a red flashing light that you can get (not included) that fits into the rear of the helmet, which is a nice bonus safety feature.
