Why We Like The Giro Aerohead MIPS Helmet
Most TT's and triathlons take place anywhere from late spring through early fall, often on some of the hottest days of the year. A TT/tri-specific lid can certainly speed up your ride, but not if it isn't built with enough ventilation to keep you cool. How to make "aero" helmets that save watts without leaving cyclists trapped inside a stifling bubble is a recurring challenge for helmet manufacturers. That's why we're impressed with the Giro Aerohead MIPS Helmet's wind-cheating profile and efficient venting system, which incorporates more cooling channels than the Aerohead Ultimate and features the added impact absorbtion of Multi-directional Impact Protection System (MIPS).
On the outside, the Aerohead uses a pretty standard In-Mold construction; polycarbonate fused to EPS foam acts as an initial shock-absorbing layer and keeps the helmet's efficient profile intact. Inside, a MIPS liner feels barely perceptible as you ride, but It's a technology that's becoming ubiquitous in helmets across disciplines because it rotates slightly upon impact to redirect energy generated by certain impacts.

Awesome TT Helmet

I like doing sprint triathlons in the summer and fall and decided to up my game with this helmet. For starters, I was a little put off by the cost, but it makes sense if you have a TT/triathlon bike. Quality wise, this helmet is top notch and robust. The best feature is the removable visor that can be reattached once you get up to speed after leaving transition. My only complaint is even with ventilation this helmet gets hot on a summer day, but too many vents would defeat the purpose. Overall, this helmet is a great addition to your triathlon arsenal.

Giro Aerohead Helmet
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I have owned many aero helmets, none of which I have really loved. This one I LOVE!! It fits perfectly and the magnetic shield is wonderful. It gives a wide open view and is so much better than wearing sunglasses. I just bought a second one, just in case they quit making it. I got this just for triathlons, but it is my everyday helmet as well!
