Why We Like The Continental Grand Prix 5000 Tire

The all-new Grand Prix 5000 Tire from Continental is a worthy successor to its Grand Prix 4000 S II, standing at the top of the Continental road clincher range. The Black Chili compound uses the latest polymers and synthetic rubbers along with a proven natural rubber for a high-performance blend that's truly race-worthy. It gives the tire greater ability to conform to imperfections in the road surface for excellent grip in demanding situations, which we appreciate for high-speed cornering.

Here's what customers have to say

The tires are generally well-received, with users praising their performance, grip, and rolling resistance. However, some experienced issues such as sidewall blowouts, difficulty mounting, and more frequent flats. Proper inflation and rim compatibility seem important for getting the best performance and durability from these tires. Overall, they appear to be a high-quality option for road cycling, but users should be mindful of these factors.

Best road tires ever! I have used many sets of these tires on multiple bikes and they are the all time best in speed and handling.

Great tires

Little bit pricey, but well worth it. These tires have much more grip and feel much faster than the cheaper Vittoria's I had on my bike previously. A little hard to mount but once mounted they fit great and I haven't had any issues or punctures yet after about 150 miles.

I've had quite a few sets of these on different bikes/wheel sets. I've had no issues with them and I recommend them to my friends. I haven't tried the tubeless versions though, but a friend has and he's had lots of punctures. These slide on without tools on HSONPLUS rims, but have to use a tool on most other rims, but not always. These clincher tires with TPU tubes is hard to beat for reliability, weight, and speed. They're pretty spot on for size, but inner rim width can change that.

too narrow

bought 25mm and when mounted measure 23.5mm. Not happy but what's my choice? I've used Conti for many years and never had this problem.

Almost impossible to mount

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I’ve been riding Continental tires for the last two decades. The GP5000s are almost impossible to mount across their range. The clinchers are quite challenging to mount, so much so that they don’t feel safe in the event of a roadside flat. Trying to mount new tires leaves me with multiple blisters. The tubeless version (not these) are also horrible. I will be another brand going further.
